Welcome back everyone! In today’s blog we’re gonna talk about a huge charity fundraiser I’m looking to achieve over the next 16 months
What’s the story?
At the back end of 2019 I had a bright idea that I should do a Half Marathon in 2020! You know Sounds fun! Sounds like a good laugh! Something to train for! All those great thoughts!
Then I had the smart idea of signing up for 12 half marathons in the space of 12 months! For charity! With 12 weeks to train 🙈!
Upon signing up to some of these the COVID-19 situation started and lockdown was here! But…that’s not a bad thing in terms of this! Since signing up I’ve had some bad knee and foot pain, but now during the lockdown it has given me chance to get in shape and start training once again! As well as recovering from any injuries. Now, with the goal in mind of completing 12 half marathons in 16 months which should be from the end of lockdown till the end of 2021
Who’s this in aid of then?
We’re doing this for The Samaritans
“Whatever you’re going through, a Samaritan will face it with you. We’re here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
To keep a branch open it takes £25,000! This isn’t given to the branch! It’s earned! Through fundraising & hoping for the support of others!!
“We’re working together to make sure fewer people die by suicide.”
So how often do Samiritans receive a call? “Every six seconds, we respond to a call for help. No judgement. No pressure. We’re here for anyone who needs someone” & It costs £5 to answer one of those calls!
What if that call was someone you knew Someone you loved? Someone who didn’t feel that they had anyone to talk to?
In 2020/ 2021 I’ll be doing my part to support The Samiritans!! I’ll be taking on the challenge of 12 Half Marathons in 16 Months!!
To put it into some form of context the last time I ran 13miles was 2013!! & since then I haven’t done a real long distance run, or any form of training that would assist with that! I have given myself till the end of the year to train for the first of the Half Marathons!
If I can raise 10% of what it takes to run a branch for a year! Then I’ll be happy!
However, we don’t want to stop at 10%! Every month these centres take thousands of calls! And without support they would cease to exist!!
“Each day around 16 people take their life in the UK and Ireland. In the next hour, we’ll receive 600 calls for help.”
“We helped 590,000 people in 2017 with our outreach work in communities.”
If that’s not enough, if you still don’t feel like you want to donate, or help a great cause, I’ve put some more reasons why the Samaritans need our support!
6,213 people died by suicide across the UK and Ireland in 2017.
5 million calls for help are received by Samaritans a year.
10-15% increase in running costs is what we need to answer every call.
Every 6 seconds a Samaritans volunteer answers a call for help.
20,000 volunteers help us deliver our lifesaving service.
“For every £1 donated to Samaritans and its branches in the UK and Ireland… 82p goes on our services and just 18p is invested in raising the next £1.”
So please, support me, and support the Samaritans! Let’s help keep these branches open! & allow them to do their great work!!
Of course you don’t have to donate! But if you would like to, any amount goes a long way towards helping me and the Samaritans
With COVID-19 and the Uk lockdown, it’s more important than ever to watch out for people and their mental health! Supporting these charities does that! And can help save lives of so many people!
As always guys and girls, stay home, stay safe and I’ll catch you all on the next blog ♥️
